Serving Our Community

As a service to the residents of Tempe, Cub Scout Pack 577 retires United States and Arizona flags that are no longer fitting emblems for display. Flags requiring retirement may be given to the Pack at our weekly Monday meeting at 6:30 PM at King of Glory Lutheran Church, 2085 East Southern Avenue in Tempe.

Procedure For Retiring Flags

The United States Code Title 36, Chapter 10, section 176 provides that "the flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning." Throughout the year Cub Scout Pack 577 holds flag retirement ceremonies. At each ceremony the symbolism of the flag is explained. Each Cub Scout participates in the retirement ceremony as an honor guard, showing respect to the colors for which he is entrusted.
